Episode 42 – I’m Batman, Mother Fucker

Mike and I watched the first 40 minutes of The Death of Superman Lives prior to recording so we give our initial thoughts on the aborted Superman project and what we thought worked and what was absolutely ridiculous.

For anyone that has watched it, you will know that the title of this weeks episode comes from one of Jon Peters more moronic ideas…

Stick around for some nerdy news to conclude the show!

Beers

Otter Creek & Lawsons Finest Liquids Double Dose

Style: Double IPA
Container: 12oz Bottle
Glassware:
2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass
Overall Nerdsense Rating:
4/5
Notes:
I really like this beer. As Mike put it, “it smells like the IPA’s I like” it’s juicy. I dig this beer a lot. It’s got some good hop flavor

Boatswain H.L.V. Ale (Heavy Lift Vessel) (Brewed by Minhas)
Style: Strong Ale
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware:
2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass
Overall Nerdsense Rating:
2.5/5
Notes:
Ehh. Not much going on here, nothing to write home about. Malty and sweet but nothing special.

Episode 41 – Japan is Made in China

We have another new guest with us this week! Our good friend, Dan, joins us. This is kind of a continuation from last week as we dive deeper into Funko Pops. Dan has a rather large collection. Here’s a picture of Dan’s crazy Funko collection!

DanFunko

This is actually Part 1. Yep, we have another two part episode because we have no self control…

Part 2 will actually be released as Episode 44 on October 22nd as we will not be able to record Friday October 16. We chose to release the 2nd part two weeks later because it feels like a separate episode and wanted to see how it stood on it’s own.

Beers

Given the generic nature of these beers and the fact we drank them out of the bottle and can, we won’t bore you with tasting notes.

** A mason jar of Midnight Moon Apple Pie Moonshine was being passed around during the recording.

Spaten Oktoberfest

Blue Moon

Nerdsense Hoppin Wheat Citra Dry Hopped

Episode 40 – Very Schizophrenic

We have a new guest in the Nerd Den this week! Our good friend Jonathan. We hit on a lot of nerd news from the past week!

We dive back to our inner child and discuss Funko Pops and other collectibles we love putting on shelves.

As discussed here is the link to Something Terrible. Please give it a read and pay for it. It’s only 99 cents and so worth it.

Episode 39 Part 2 – Our Rocks (aka Yep, We’re Drunker)

…And now…for the sequel nobody wanted: Part 2 of the conversation between your beloved hosts and their somewhat-better half’s.

If you liked the first episode, this is more of the same, but everyone is somehow more drunk and slurry.

Just when you thought Shaun and Mike couldn’t possibly be more inebriated… Some people claim it’s their women to blame. But we know it’s their own damn faults.

Beers

Smuttynose Imperial Stout

Style: Imperial Stout
Container:
22oz Bomber
Glassware:
2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass, SmuttyNose snifter and Trillium 4oz sample glass
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.5
/5
Notes:
Sort of mixed here. Kerry liked the Boatswain better but I found this to be a little more consistent on the flavor. Very dark and roasty

Episode 39 Part 1 – Our Rocks (aka Yep, We’re Drunk)

This very special episode is one half of a two hour conversation between Shaun and Mike, and their significant others, Kerry and Chan.
This is an alcohol-fueled stream-of-conscious conversation, and it’s weird. But maybe you’ll learn something about your slurring, mumbling, drunken hosts… Or maybe you’ll be left wondering how they ever got laid in the first place.

Check back next week for Part 2!

Beers

Boatswain Chocolate Stout (Brewed by Minhas Brewery)

Style: Chocolate Stout
Container:
22oz Bomber
Glassware:
2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass, SmuttyNose snifter and Trillium 4oz sample glass
Overall Nerdsense Rating:
3/5
Notes:
Light and not to bitter. Chocolate but not over powering. Easy to drink

Boatswain Double IPA (Brewed by Rhinelander Brewery)

Style: Double IPA
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass, SmuttyNose snifter and Trillium 4oz sample glass
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 1.5/5
Notes: Didn’t like this one. Not hoppy whatsoever. Not even being $2.50 saved this one…

Episode 38 – Overrated Villains

This weeks episode is pretty much all news! We discuss a recent interview with Jessie Eisenberg about BvS while hitting upon some fun cast photos from the Suicide Squad.

WWE Summerslam! Stephen Amell wrestles!

The big piece is released Captain America: Civil War concept art showing who’s side each Avenger will be picking. Will it be Cap or Tony?

Beers

Portsmouth Brewery Le Chat Noir

Style: Dry Irish Stout
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass and SmuttyNose snifter
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3/5
Notes: Not very flavorful, kind of got better as it warmed up but our hopes were very high and it sort of let us down.

Old Hickory Brewer Redeemer IPA

Style: Double IPA
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glass and SmuttyNose snifter
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.5/5
Notes: Smells of orange and malt. The flavor is sort of in line with the smell. You do get some citrus with more malt. You’re sort of teased as at first you hope it’s going to be juicy but then the malt comes in

Episode 37 – Radio Edit

We have Jason back with us this week! There are a lot of things to discuss this week.

We hit on the past weeks nerd news including a very big Batman V Superman rumor that sounds awful but the evidence makes it sound more and more likely. We won’t post it here in case you don’t want to be spoiled.

This episode contains our first ever edit insertion along with added intro! Hopefully it sounds fluid!

Beers

Cambridge Brewing Company Sgt. Pepper

Style: Farmhouse ale
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.5/5
Notes: A solid farmhouse ale with pepper that really hits at the back of the throat.

Stone 19th Anniversary Thunderstruck

Style: Double IPA
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4.5\5
Notes: Really great DIPA with hints of grapefruit. Leaps and bounds better than the malty 18th Anniversary

Episode 36 – Piper’s Final Pit

Nerdsense is back with another episode.

Everything is evolving, and we’re adding new wrinkles. This episode we pay respects to the late great ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, and with that, also pay respect to our respective pasts as former pro wrestling fans. And we use that to venture into some surprising news to come out of last week’s WWE Raw.

We also spent time outlining our agenda. We aren’t one trick ponies and we have many interests, and this podcast is going to reflect that. We recently blew the cash to update our equipment, and we have improved our process and focus.

We are getting better every day, so you should see continuous improvements each and every week.

Sit back and enjoy, my friends.

Beers

Night Shift Santilli

Container: 16oz Can
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4.5\5
Notes: Really juicy and hop forward IPA. We’ve talked about this beer plenty of times. It’s our “goto” IPA that can hang with the likes of Heady and Sip of Sunshine

Southern Tier Choklat Oranj

Container: Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.5\5
Notes: It tastes like one of those Chocolate Orange balls. It has a big boozy backend after the sweetness of the orange and chocolate taper off.

Indra Kunidra

Container: Bomber
Glassware: 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 2\5
Notes: This one was definitely “interesting” It tastes like an indian curry dish. You definitely get the cumen upfront and it sweetens as it warms. Honestly though, we both love Ballast Point but we could not finish this and it had to be dumped

Episode 35 – Big Ones, Small Ones

We review Ant-Man!

However, before reviewing Ant-Man we decided to torture ourselves. Mike, Josh and myself do a blind taste of four of those “yellow” beers.

  1. Miller Lite WINNER!
  2. Pabst Blue Ribbon
  3. Budweiser
  4. Sapporo

Our old friend, Ray, joined us as sort of an off to the side guest. He poured the beers into numbered cups for us and chimed in occasionally. We hope to have him back as a full featured guest in the near future!

blindfull

All 3 of us were completely wrong when it came to deciphering which beer was which. We did however unanimously decide that Beer #1 (Miller Lite) was the best.

Above you’ll find the order in which the beers were presented to us and below you’ll find what we thought each one was.

*NOTE* The below order does not signify the order in which we would rate these beers. We already tortured our pallets enough and decided to stop the rating at the best overall

Mike & Josh:

  1. Sapporo
  2. Budweiser
  3. Miller Lite
  4. Pabst Blue Ribbon

Shaun:

  1. Pabst Blue Ribbon
  2. Miller Lite
  3. Sapporo
  4. Budweiser

Beers (Good Ones)

Night Shift Absolution
Container: 64oz Growler
Glassware: 2014 and 2015 Night Shift Barrel Society Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.5\5
Notes: Definite hazelnut coffee comes up on the aftertaste.  It got a lot smoother as it warmed up in the glass. At first the three of us weren’t blown away by it but as it warmed, we all agreed it got better.

Episode 34 – Can You Hear Us Now?

We are BACK in a BIG BIG WAY. Check this shit out! We’re going professional!  That’s right, we have real stuff now! We don’t really know how to use it but it sure sounds a shitload better!

newkit

In addition to us talking about how awesome we are going to sound now, we also have ALOT of nerd news to catch up on.

We discuss a lot of the things that came out of Comic Con. We’ve got new trailers from Batman V Superman! Suicide Squad! The Merc With The Mouth (AKA Deadpool)!! And Ivan Ooze..errr I mean Apocolypse from X-Men: Age of Apocalypse!

Come and join Mike and Shaun as Nerdsense starts a new chapter!

Beer

Nerdsense Hoppin Wheat (Centennial Dry Hop)
